What makes a man a man?
In younger years, had I been asked
To list what drew me in
I might have mentioned blazing eyes,
Strong hands, a playful grin
In early years, the words and deeds
That made my heart expand
Were flourished with romantic whim
Splendid, superb, and grand
Each year I find that I have grown
Vain dreams no more hold sway
The list of traits I cherish now
By far is more blasé
I love your eyes, your hands, your smile
Your every word and deed
But most of all I love the way
You nurture family need
I love the way you’re not afraid
To sit down on the floor
And have a little tea party
With daughters you adore
Who’d guess a grocery-shopping list
Would make a woman swoon?
But when you think to author one
I sing a different tune
And yet you still bring to my life
Much romance and affection
There’s nothing more that I could want
You’re marital perfection
