Steadfast
One of my favorites, I wrote this for Bill in 2000:
When weariness doth make its nest
within my weakened mind
And gravity pulls closed my eyes
coherence left behind
When breathing slows to steadiness
and dreams creep ’round my brain
Your image remains sharp and true
all else is swift to wane
You care for me in darkest night
and in the bright of day
Your steady love sustains my soul
the demons kept at bay
My dream, so sweet, will quickly flee
when sleep deserts, I fear
And yet each time I fear in vain
for, steadfast, you are here
