Absences
Written for my husband back when my job first started taking me out of town a lot:
Miles away from where you are
My heart right here and yours so far
My heart beats lonley in this crowd
So many, yet my heart seems loud
And when the rhythm settles in
I hear your heart above the din
It calls for me, its message clear
Come home, come home, I need you here
My heart just sighs and slows a beat
It must stay here ’til task complete
We muddle through, my heart and I
Yours, too, will make it by and by
As with my heart, true with my soul
Each only half with yours are whole
And absences do take their toll
And absences to take their toll
