Be impressed with my mad skillz…
I’m watching TV. Law and Order SVU (dum-bum).
Somehow, I have toggled on the Picture-in-Picture feature of my television and I have no clue how to turn it off, so I’m sitting here watching a BIG version of Law and Order SVU and a tiny version of Law and Order SVU nested inside.
Gah. I’m an idiot.
Court went well - loads of fun. I think we kicked their ass but we won’t find out for a week or two. The judge will consider the case and submit a decision within 8 to 10 days and we’ll be notified by mail. My girl - she was awesome and is thinking of going to law school.
My favorite part was when the slumlord blamed all the plumbing issues on tampons and said that they hadn’t had any plumbing problems with the previous tenants.
Without even the slightest blush, my daughter vehemently refuted his claim, telling the judge that the girls were all on birth control pills and therefore had regulated cycles and she could prove that none of them had their periods between the first and second sewer back up so it couldn’t have been tampons!
“And, your honor, I’d like to submit into evidence the brochure from the Kotex tampons that clearly states they are flushable, and a copy of our lease that does not disallow them from being flushed and statements from the previous tenants confirming that they had ongoing plumbing issues while living in the rental as the previous tenants, and they are all males and therefore did not use tampons.”

I’ll let you know how it comes out as soon as I know. I will say this - if we don’t win this, I will lose faith in the legal system. We had our ducks in a row - registered letters, photographs, copies of health and safety inspections with code violations, and much more. This landlord is an unethical bastard preying on naive college students and needs to be stopped. I told my daughter that she needs to photocopy all the evidence and make little packets. Each September when new tenants are in that dive, she should mail a packet to the address and help them with any activity they may need to initiate or defend.
Down with the establishment!
