The Wisdom of Solomen…

My 5 year old baby started kindergarten last week.  She has been waiting for this day for quite a while.  Several months ago, she was very anxious about it because she didn’t know math.  So she has been working on her math skills for months and by the time August got here, she was ready.

She marched onto the bus that first morning with full confidence.  She was ready.

At the end of the day, I met her bus and she told me it was the best day of her entire life!  She was so happy.

The next day she called me at work after she got home.  This day was even better than the previous one!

The following day, believe it or not, was even better still!  She was walking on sunshine, so very happy with her new kindergarten-going life.

Last Friday was the last day of her first week.  When I got home from work, I inquired about her day.  Oh, it was fun.  They sang the HELLO song, they went to the gym.  She made a new friend.  That sort of thing.  She was a little disappointed that she hasn’t yet been able to make use of her wicked math skillz, but she figured that would come eventually.

“So, Jadie,” I asked.  “Was this day even better than yesterday?  Are the days still getting better and better?”

“Well, no.” she said.  “Today it was the same.  I think from now on, the days will all just be the same.”

I stopped and contemplated my life at that moment.  I’ve been going to work since I was 15 years old.  I have been lamenting a backlog of laundry for decades.  Somebody always needs help wiping her butt.  Every time the kitchen is clean, I blink and then it’s dirty again.  My husband’s never getting enough sex.  Some major malfunction in the house is always requiring an expensive repair or replacement.  Seinfeld has been on every night at 10 PM since 1942.

I looked at my Jadyn and thought yeah, baby.  At some point, the days seem like they are all just the same.

One week in kindergarten, and look how brilliant my child already is?
