All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy…

Published by JustLinda at 3:17 pm under LINdiscriminate Drivel

I was in New York this week.  I got in a lot of work and a lot of play.

I know I said I wasn’t going to blog about work, but it’s OK when I’m gushing about how well it’s going, right?  I had a great visit in NY.  Good face time with my team, a fun lunch out with the group, a few great meetings including a really, really great meeting with my CFO, to whom I proposed a few ideas I’ve had and from whom I received full support to move them forward.  I was on cloud nine.

Work stuff aside, it was a great week socially too.  My friend, Heidi (one of those internet weirdo friends that your mother warns you about) came up and stayed with me.  If there was a competition about who has the biggest mouth and can dominate a conversation, Heidi and I would probably tie in the end.  I’ve met my match.

On Wednesday night, Heidi and I met up with three other internet weirdos who came via trains from Connecticut and New Jersey and suburban New York and we all went to see MammaMia (give it up - you’ll be singing Abba songs for days even if you don’t know the words…) and had a blast.

At the airport when I was heading home, a woman sat down next to me while I was reading.  I hear her say “Linda?” and I look up to see the effervescent Terri from a past job.  And then another former coworker too!  I stopped reading and sat there chatting with them until we boarded the plane.  It was great to see them, to catch up, to laugh so hard I had to wipe tears out of my eyes.

It was a really good trip.  I got home late last night.  Generally, when I’m out of town, I get way behind on my emails (especially when there is a Heidi to sit and gab with all evening long).  So this morning, I have a note from my boss:

Boss dude:  Linda, please get your CMO numbers submitted.

Linda’s reply:  Done.

Boss dude:  Also, get the bonus percentages plugged in too.

Linda’s reply:  Will your unending demands on me never cease?

Let’s hope he giggled as much when he read it as I did when I hit the send button.

You can tell when I’m feeling good, huh?  I swear I have the greatest boss in the world.  I have friends in my present who make me laugh.  I have friends in my past who make me laugh (and whom I miss dearly).  I have a great job and a great family and a husband who loves me beyond words.  I have beautiful, healthy, smart children.

Now if only I could get the dead Christmas tree off my patio, life would be perfect.

Happy weekend, Internet.  Find something to laugh about.  Laughter truly is the best medicine.
