I carried a watermelon.

Five bucks to the person who knows where that quote is from.

Yes, of course - Dirty Dancing.  You’re so bright!

This week, I’m in a place that reminds me of where Baby met Johnny.  We’re here for a corporate conference, three days of training and team building.  I haven’t had to carry a watermelon yet, but I will if it’s necessary.  God help me if I have to dance dirty.  They made me play touch football today in 189 degree heat.  Who knows what tomorrow will bring.

The place is teeming with old people and children and their parents and cousins and uncles and old family friends.  They are paddling boats and making crafts and putt-putting golf balls.  I’m just sure that any minute someone will break into song “Join hands and hearts and voices, voices hearts and hands.  At Kellerman’s the friendships last long as the mountains stand.”  Kellerman’s might even be right down the road from Mohonk Mountain, where I am.  Or maybe Mohonk was the inspiration for Kellerman’s, who knows.

I did my 2nd presentation today.  It sucked.  Well, the first part of it sucked and the 2nd part went fine.  Yesterday’s was much better.  The moral of the story is that I don’t like delivering material that I did not write, assemble, contribute to, or influence.  Or something.  I felt like I was giving someone else’s speech.  It didn’t feel genuine.  Besides, the acronym HPT was used throughout to mean ‘high performing team’ and everyone knows that HPT means home pregnancy test.

By and large, though, my bits are over and I can just coast for the rest of the week.  I have one more brainstorming session to facilitate on Thursday.  I get to come home on Friday.  It seems so long away.

They’ve given me this tiny corner room with sloping ceilings and no balcony.  Everyone else has a balcony with rocking chairs and me - I’m stuck in this room that quite reminds me of Harry Potter’s bedroom under the stairs.  Corner rooms are supposed to be better, but this one stinks.

Besides…  nobody puts Linda in a corner.

(er, did I mention I carried a watermelon?)
