God speaks to the Astros

I wish I could properly credit this picture, but it’s one of those emails that is circulating madly through cyberspace with no acknowledgement of the genius who created it.

Being a life-long native St. Louisan, I only hope the Astros are all atheists. Honestly, though, I’ve never seen a more superstitious crowd than athletes and sports fans. I mean, really, when a guy will only wear a CERTAIN pair of underwear because he thinks they are lucky for his team, then it would seem that a belief that God called the Astros “dumbassess” is a pretty short leap.

I’m one of those fair-weathered friends. I pay no attention to the Cards all summer long and then get excited during post season.

The red birds have won 9 out of 10 of their last playoff home games.

Bring it on, baby.

There is a lot of talk here in St. Louis about the Astros ballpark. I hear them being called CHEATERS. Something about closing the roof yadda yadda (I don’t understand). And something about the architecture of the park. Evidently it’s asymmetrical and there is a really short home run to be had when hitting to left field (that’s the one on the left when you’re standing at the plate, right??).

Anyway, we’re feeling pretty darn cocky here in ol’ St. Louie… Home field advantage, good history of playoff wins at home, no more closed stadium, no more “short” home run opportunities, and DAMMIT - It would be SOOOO cool if we took the World Series in our last year at Busch Stadium. If we lose? Ah, well, there’s always next year. But if we win, do you have ANY idea how much slackin’ off in the work place that will create? Celebrations, parades, etc.??? Wooo-hoooooo!!! Go, Cards!

Oh, and Astros?? I consulted my magic 8-ball and asked it if you should, in fact, pitch around Pujols and it said “NO WAY!” You believe me, right?

PS Holy guacamole, batman… did I just blog about SPORTS????
