I need some blogucation…

Published by JustLinda under LINdiscriminate Drivel

I admit it. I’m new to the Blogosphere. So new that I still giggle when I use that word. And so new that I wonder about the other blog-ese terms I know nothing about. I make them up in my head… kind of like blogucation.

Or maybe blog-envy (what I have when I read many of the fabulous funny blogs out there). Or how about blogarrhea (what I have on days like today when I keep rushing back to the blog and flushing, er, I mean posting). I’ve read some blogtastic sites and I’ve gotten over my blogphobia (I have started commenting).

It’s really rather difficult to try to learn all the rules and blogulations, especially with three kids running around and breaking my blogcentration. But I’m trying. I have some questions, though. Can you help (or… is this a shameless and shallow attempt to draw you out so I can have a blogasm over how many comments I get??? - you decide).

Evidently, I’m supposed to have clever code names for my husband and kids. I’ve already fucked up on this one. Let’s call Bill the Dust Mite King or the Pervert Prince. I think my 9 year old, sadly, will have to be Dork Girl. The orthodonic appliance she recently got has solidified this. I still hold out hope that she’ll hook up with the wrong kind of crowd and maybe some cool-ness will rub off, but right now it’s not looking good. I’ll just call the 22 year old Countess Dracula. She sleeps in darkness all day and stays out all night. I’ve not yet seen blood but I’ve smelled the formaldehyde, or maybe it’s just beer. The 3 year old would have to be The Chess Master because she manipulates us like crazy and I end up feeling like a pawn in her mischievous little game of life. The 20 year old… we’ll call her Cinderella. She’s the only one of us who isn’t a slob and she is hard working. She’s the most likely to change my diapers when I’m old and incontinent. What a good girl. And I can’t come up with anything else for baby bits other than Rae of Sunshine. So there. We all now have code names (which were put here for entertainment purposes only and I’m surely never going to use them).

I’ve found the best way to discover new and interesting blogs is to click through the links included on the main pages of other blogs I’ve found to be interesting. So I go cyber-hopping all over and never remember by which path I’ve arrived at a place. Am I supposed to tell someone (when I comment) “Hi, I got here by way of the link on Blogolicious Babe’s site.” or is it okay just to comment and not tell them how I stumbled upon them?

And let’s talk about these link-lists… does one ask PERMISSION to add someone there? Or, is it perfectly fine to say “These are the blogs I find hysterical” and put links to the ones I enjoy? Then there is this whole blogroll thing which I know nothing about. I expect that I’d be more likely to learn if I ever clicked on the blogroll link to read more. Now most importantly - if anyone would ever add ME to their links, who would be responsible for buying the celebratory cigar? Yeah, me, I was afraid of that. haha

Let’s move on to comments, shall we? Is it BAD FORM to post in one’s own comments section? I’ve found that individuals often ask questions or provide suggestions. Is one expected to email individually to acknowledge, or is it better to post in the comments section? I can see pros and cons to either approach.

I know I have lots of other dumb questions. But I did turn 40 this past year so it’s really a miracle that I’ve remembered the ones here. Plus, being relatively new to the blogging world, there’s a good chance that not a sole will read this and I’ll be asking questions to nobody.

Hello, my name is Linda and I’m a blogaholic.
