Kind of like MLKjr, I have a DREAM…
First of all, let’s just get it on the table - YES, this is one of those days where I’m blogging left and right. Face it, if your husband was watching Dodgeball on video-on-demand, you’d be double and triple blogging today too (I bet the real true bloggers out there already have a nifty word for use when someone posts to their blog multiple times per day - maybe bloggoneurotic or blog-pathetic or something like that).
But like that girl (what’s her name?) in the courtroom scene of the book To Kill a Mockingbird, I must post because I GOT SOMETHING TO SAY…. i got something to say.
I’m trolling the internet for a pregnant teenager, preferrably one who lives in my area.
Now, I know how creepy that sounds. Really, I do. Which is why this next bit is very, very important - please read on (if you’ve picked up the phone to call the cyber-police and report me, set it down and give me two more minutes).
Here’s the deal - I was a knocked-up seventeen year old kid exactly 23 years ago. I got kicked out of school (yes, back in the Age of Antiquity, that’s what they did to pregnant girls in good Catholic schools). I spent the next decade and a half struggling. I’ll spare you the pathetic details (they aren’t terribly pathetic). But the good news is that I kind of got on top of my game since then and I’m doing quite well now. No complaints.
Here’s the pregnant teen part — I would love to turn around and help someone who is facing that same struggle I faced oh-so-long-ago - a hand up, if you will.
My littlest girly, my baby, is 15 months old now. And she is my last (the last of FIVE girls).
And I have SO much baby stuff. Everything, really. And I’d love to give it to someone in need, someone facing that teen mom challenge. And I need help finding that someone. (please don’t count how many ANDs I’ve used in the past two minutes, it’s really quite embarrassing).
So, here’s the list of stuff I want to give away to someone:
Bassinet with mattress and skirts and bedding
Bouncy seat
Walker
High chair (still using it now, but when we’re done…)
Crib (still using it now, but when we’re done…)
Toddler bed (still using it now, but when we’re done…)
Carseat carrier (5-point harnass) with two travel bases
Other carseats to accommodate larger sized babies
(somehow, we’ve accummulated about 28 carseats in the past few years)
Stroller that converts for use with carseat carrier
Walker (yes, I know - no lectures please)
Medela Pump in Style Double Electric breast pump (complete with a lecture on breastfeeding)
Avent Isis manual breast pump
Bottles and Milk-storage containers
Kick-n-play toy
Crib side toys
Leapfrog Activity Table
Rocking Cow (Moo!)
Adorable pink lady-bug bedding (sheets, blanket, bumper pads)
All-in-one washable diapers by Kushies (about 30 of them, these are the kind with the waterproof cover and the velcro closures - way cool!)
Ear thermometer
Baby bathtub (the 4-in-1 kind)
And there is a lot of little stuff… extra sheets and receiving blankets and and baby wash cloths and CLOTHES OUT THE WAZOO (I have five girls, but all the clothes I have are from the last two littest ones). I have everything. I swear, everything. EXCEPT a swing ’cause we used that sucker so much it plum wore out. haha
OK, so now you’ve put the phone down and you’re not calling the authorities, right?
Here’s the weird part… I’ve wanted to do this FOR-EV-ER. Why is it so hard to find a pregnant teenager when I know they are all over the place? I called my old high school, I’ve put the word out in other various places. This shouldn’t be so hard!
So, oh-Internet… I know I’m new to blogging. I know I’m not established. But show me how this works — how does the power of The Blogosphere work? How do I get the word out and hook up with someone’s little sister or someone’s friend’s niece or someone’s student or the girl who used to babysit or SOMEONE? Can you help me?? Link me to someone to link me to someone to link me to someone? Something? Give me advice?
(I swear this is legit — Danni and Dana who have known me for four years can vouch and I would only move forward with all safety concerns resolved and only in a very safe manner)
So? Can you help me?
